We ask for as little as possible.
You can use the whole site without signing in. An account exists only so the lives you keep stay yours.
In short
Three promises
No password. Sign in is Google's, not ours, and we never see or store one.
No ads, no trackers. Nothing follows you off this site.
Account optional. Skip it and a life you draw is still yours, tied to one random number in a cookie instead of an account.
Sharing
When you share a life
Sharing creates a link that carries the drawn life itself, nothing about you. Whoever opens it sees the same person you saw and learns nothing about who sent it. Classroom links work the same way, and students never need an account to open one.
Accounts
If you sign in
Signing in goes through Google, so we never see a password. From it we keep an email address, an id we generate for the account, and the lives you chose to save. Nothing else: no contacts, no profile, nothing posted anywhere on your behalf.
Classrooms
If a teacher sent you here
Nothing about you is stored. No name, no email, no class list, and no record of who drew which life. The life itself becomes a page with its own address, so it reads the same way weeks later. Class mode is a cookie that lasts fourteen days, and every page carries the control that ends it.
Storage and requests
What we store, and what the site loads
Stored
- The life you draw. It becomes a page with its own address the moment it is drawn, whether you are signed in or not.
- If you sign in: your email address, an id we generate for the account, and the list of lives you kept.
- If you do not: one random number in a cookie, which is how your list finds its way back to you.
- The language you pick, in a cookie, so a link you open later arrives in it.
Loaded
- Map tiles from OpenStreetMap, when a birth-city map is drawn. Like any site you visit, it sees your IP address.
- Country flags and portraits, served from this site, so nobody else sees the request.
- Anonymous counts of how many lives have been drawn. No identifiers, no way back to a person.
What you can remove, and what stays.
Clearing this browser, or taking a life out of your list, changes your list. Deleting your account removes your email address, your account id and your list. None of the three removes a life. What removes one is time: a life nobody keeps and nobody opens again is deleted four weeks after it was drawn. Anything you keep, or come back to, stays where it is with its link working. If you want a life taken down sooner, write to us.
